Wildfire Opal - Utah
Wildfire Opal from Utah. This raw piece of opal can be cut and cabbed or kept as a specimen. The Wildfire Opal of Utah is an unusual and rare variety of opal, where layers of mineral deposits in water slowly drip, forming stalactites on the vein of opal stone. This stone has only been discovered in one area.
The specimen here in the photos is technically displayed upside-down and the fiery stalactites you see are the mineral deposits that formed on the layer of opal (that thick creamy banding).
